Are You Ready for Your First Himalayan Trek?
Himalayan Runner can guide you to the best trekking places in Uttarakhand if you've been contemplating Himalayan treks but aren't sure how to begin.
Individuals who are familiar with tracks don't spend much time preparing, but if you are new to it, you should keep certain things in mind.
If you are serious about going on a trek, you must be physically fit. It is exciting to embark on a new journey, but it is also a little nerve-wracking to take the first step. Trekking can be intimidating, especially if you're planning your first trek. The bright side is that, unlike mountaineering, no prior training is required.
We've compiled a list of things to do before beginning your adventure:
Choose the ideal location: As a novice, consider a somewhat easy walk to assess how your body responds to the trek, both physically and mentally. There are various types of treks. There are short ones that last only a day and longer ones that last two weeks or more. Aside from being physically hard, the large ones incur enormous costs. So choose your trek wisely.
Choose easy hikes: If you are a first-time trekker visiting the Himalayas, stick to lower-elevation, simpler treks. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are easy hikes for beginners and will provide a lot of mountain paths, magnificent scenery, and an introduction to the robust Himalayas.
Treks for beginners, the Kedar Kanta Trek, or the Har Ki Dun Trek are both viable options. These treks usually last 3-6 days and range in difficulty from easy to moderate.
Choose between a solo or group trek: Once you've decided on the trek, you must determine whether you want to go alone or with a group. If you are going alone, you must thoroughly inspect every facet of the expedition, from bringing food to having an emergency radio on standby. We would not recommend going on a solo trek as a beginner, even if you are physically fit. The importance of gathering experiences from people familiar with trekking, mountains, and everything related to them cannot be overstated.
If you enjoy solitude, nothing beats a short day hike alone, but if you are too friendly and extroverted, simply locate a group of like-minded folks.
Choose the right trekking equipment: Don't overload yourself with gear. Always remember that you are trekking in the mountains and have to carry everything alone. A nice set of hiking shoes and comfortable clothing, particularly trousers, are essential purchases. It is a good idea to purchase waterproof coats and shoes because it is uncomfortable when your shoes or clothes become wet if it rains or if you have to cross a small stream or any other body of water, which is quite common during treks.
There are a few items that everyone should have with them:
Durable and waterproof shoes
Socks
Trekking Pole
Refillable Water Bottle–MUST
Torch (with spare batteries)
Medical Kit
Toiletries
Toilet Paper
Hand Sanitizer
Swiss Knife
Snacks (chocolate, dried fruits, and energy bars)
Tent and sleeping bag ( if trekking without a trek operator)
Learn more about the area and the locals: People follow trends or join organizations without knowing anything about the location, people, or culture they are visiting. Some people are also disdainful of local culture and traditions. That is why I encourage visitors to learn more about the place they are visiting. Don't just be a tourist and rely only on the tour operator, even if you hire one. Read about the local culture and history. Look for informative books and blogs, and also look at the map. Don't depend on GPS because rural areas have network problems.
Examine your fitness level: You don't have to be an athlete or go to the gym every day to start hiking. Basic treks should be manageable for everyone in good health. Still, performing it for the first time can be exhausting. It should be alright if you have a naturally active lifestyle. To prepare for the expedition, walk a few miles, take the stairs rather than the lifts, and do some exercise. Fear and uncertainty cause many first-timers to give up. Always remember that it is common to struggle on your first trip. Once you've overcome that, the rewards will be enormous.
Choosing the Best Trek Operator: Choose a reputable trek operator or trek company. We recommend Himalayan Runner as the best trekking company in Uttarakhand. As a lone trekker, you will never feel insecure among the staff or groups. Make sure you clear up any doubts about the company you're going with. Contact them and inquire about any extra necessities you'll need if the route requires it.
Keep Trekking!!
